RETURN TO MARTIAL ARTS

In March all our Martial Arts clubs had to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We are excited that as of June 8th, our Martial Arts clubs can re-open following the Provincial Government guidelines to keep our students safe.   The SMAA takes safety very serious and has put together a thorough Return to Martial Arts plan to guide our clubs to re-open in a safe and methodically manner.

RETURN TO MARTIAL ARTS PLAN (Updated July 1st, 2020)

provincials 2020 update

After reviewing the most recent updates surrounding COVID-19 and the facility shut downs, the Saskatchewan Martial Arts Association Board of Directors have made the decision to post pone the 2020 SMAA Provincial Championships to the Fall

This was a tough decision, but the decision that the SMAA Board of Directors feel is best for the safety of our Participants, Instructors, Officials, Volunteers and fans in our Martial Arts community.  The Board of Directors also feel it is the most fair decision since participants are not able to train as they normally would right now.

More information regarding the date and location the 2020 Provincial Championships will be moved to will out once more information is available when clubs will be able to resume regular classes safely.  The Board will also review qualification requirements to see if any adjustments will need to be made for this year.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The Saskatchewan Martial Arts Association is following the lead of other Provincial and National Sport Organizations and following the recent mandates from the Saskatchewan Health and the Provincial Government regarding mass gatherings over 250 individuals, which means effective March 14th, 2020, all SMAA sanctioned tournaments in the immediate future will need to be postponed until further notice.

The SMAA Board of Directors understands that moving some of the upcoming tournaments will make an impact on qualifying for Provincials and the Board is diligently reviewing current qualification policies to see if any adjustments need to be made for the situation.  As this review is done updates will be sent out.

The SMAA Board of Directors understands this will cause frustration to all our valued volunteers, members, and competitors who have been working hard for these events, however, they feel it is time to take necessary precautions to keep our community and families safe.   At this time, a timeline cannot be provided on when these tournaments will be rescheduled, but the SMAA Board of Directors and Director of Operations will continue to monitor all updates and advisories from the Saskatchewan Health and the Provincial Government and will remain diligent in communicating any developments as they occur.  The SMAA is dedicated to also helping these tournaments reschedule we able to do so.  Any tournaments that do continue during this time will be considered unsanctioned and will not count towards Provincials Ratings and insurance will not be provided.
